Work With Thom Cafferty For Personal, Diligent And Compassionate Representation
There are plenty of firms out there that operate much like an assembly line, feeding clients in, providing quick, impersonal legal service and then moving them along.
Full Attention And Commitment To Your Case
At my firm, I believe that each client deserves my full attention and commitment to their case. No matter if you need a Chapter 7 or 13 bankruptcy filing, defense against a positive drug test, assistance in a wrongful death case or lemon law help, I offer honest answers about how I can help, compassionate guidance and experienced maritime issues counsel.
I understand that what you are facing is the most important issue of your life. I work to return phone calls and emails as quickly as possible and to keep you in the loop with your case throughout the entire process. I am often able to find creative solutions to unique or challenging legal issues.
Unique Coast Guard Experience
As a lawyer, my broad understanding of commercial mariner issues enables me to help clients who have an out of the ordinary case. I served over 20 years on active duty with the U.S. Coast Guard, which included five years aboard Coast Guard Cutter ACACIA. There I worked as the navigator on this World War II era, seagoing buoy tender and ice breaker. I also worked on the Coast Guard’s foreign vessel desk, reviewing international safety standards, and as a commercial vessel inspector and investigator.
Because I prosecuted cases as an investigator, I know what type of agreements are likely to be reached in maritime cases.
Teaching Other Attorneys
I am a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy matters for attorneys earning continuing education credits, with topics ranging from the implications of divorce and bankruptcy, to consumer bankruptcy fundamentals, claim litigation and preferential property transfers.
Giving Back To The Community
I volunteer with my local American Legion post and perform with the color guard to ensure that our veterans are provided proper honors. I devote a significant portion of my legal practice to pro bono activity, which includes referrals from the Toledo Bar Association and Operation Legal Help Ohio for veterans. I advise callers on the Ask the Attorney program, assist homeowners in foreclosure, and I serve on the bankruptcy committee of my local bar association.
